Gut Health for Bristolians - Feed the Bugs

Have you fed your gut bugs today? Nutritional therapist tackling gut health to help bloated and tired Bristolians!

Inside our tummy there are around 100 trillion bugs living, like little interactive pets, and we need to look after them to stay healthy ourselves. If the bad ones get the upper hand we can be more susceptible to ill health, chronic conditions or weight gain. That is according to Anna Mapson from Goodness Me Nutrition who wants everyone to start thinking about the colonies of bacteria, viruses, fungi and other microbes we host, and how to feed them to stay well.

Working to improve gut health for clients across Bristol Anna has seen marked improvements in a variety of clients’ symptoms like IBS, bloating, reflux, eczema, acne, hormonal issues as well as supported people with fertility, weight loss or general wellbeing. Anna said,

“What we eat has a huge impact on which colonies of microbes survive, we need to feed the good ones to help them out. I’m so fascinated by this new area of research, and absolutely love seeing health improvements in my clients.”

To help more people with their gut health Anna is launching a new low cost online Gut Reset programme to help people implement the simple steps to help feed the bugs. This will include recipes and food tips to support your microbiome.

These recommendations have helped previous Gut Reset client, Jane says:

"Before starting this programme I struggled with overeating and had a bloated stomach and constipation.

I liked all the recipes in the pack and it was well worth the time to do the cooking. I felt better due to cooking healthy meals from scratch, and I noticed my sugar cravings reduced. The best bit of the programme was eating more healthily, and eating more food, but without gaining any weight.

It was great working with Anna, during the 7 Day Gut Reset there was lots of online support and encouragement, along with her experience and knowledge of good nutrition."

Anna’s healthy eating tips to feed your bugs:

* Eat more fibre – vegetables and pulses like lentils, chickpeas. The gut bugs especially love prebiotics (food for the bugs) like leeks, onions, garlic, artichokes. Cover half your plate in vegetables at mealtimes.

* Aim for 7 a day – 5 vegetables and 2 pieces of fruit every day

* Drink 8 glasses of water or herb tea

* Aim to eat food in as natural state as possible, reduce food from packets (e.g. ready meals) as these are low in fibre and nutrients.

* Avoid killing off too many bugs – There is no need for anti-bacterial hand wash, avoid unnecessary antibiotics as these kill off all the good bugs as well.

* Exercise – moving our body helps to create a healthy set of gut bugs.

The next 7 Day Gut Reset starts on 1st July and can be booked online here!
