Clifton Fest Announces Lineup for Summer Festival

Clifton Village will host Clifton Fest, a free mini festival of live music, street entertainment and cultural performances on Friday 7th to Sunday 9th July.

Organised by BID Clifton Village in conjunction with Smiley Miley Events, the festival has announced local talent acts, special food offerings and activities that will take over the village for the weekend.

The mini festival will start on Friday 7th July with an evening of live music taking over the pubs and venues across the Village. Kicking off the festivities on Friday night will be DJ Slider as he sets up the decks at the White Lion Bar. Lee Mccrory will be performing a special set at The Bristol Fringe, Anna Lisa will be playing at the Brunel Wine Bar and local music acts at the Nettle and Rye.

On Saturday 9th July the camaraderie will take to the streets with live music and entertainment at Boyce’s Avenue, Waterloo Street and Regents Street. The festivities will start at 11am with jazz and blues duo Jo Swan and Nick Pullin on Boyces Avenue. Local talented musicians performing throughout the day include The Barry Walsh Band featuring 5 piece 'The Shillings’, Kit Morgan and Jo McNab, Ruth Royall, TV magician Kieron the Mighty , Mary Spender and Ian Luther. Expect to get up and dancing with live sets from Bristol Swing Riot and the talented Mendip Swing.

The afternoon will offer the chance for audiences to get involved with an open mic opportunity on the terrace of the Avon Gorge. There will be five 40 minutes slots for local talent, and budding artists are encouraged to apply by contacting events@theavongorge.com. The Corrie Tap will be hosting an afternoon of acoustic blues with Lee Mccrory and Eddie Denny. The festivities will then carry on into the night at the Avon Gorge with evening entertainment from saxophonist James Morton featuring Tanya Lacey and a second chance to see the fabulous Ian Luther at The Bristol Fringe.

Throughout the day visitors can also expect to find magicians and street entertainers roaming around the village as well as some special food and drink offerings from local shops, cafes and restaurants. Activities include a Magic Bar all weekend with magician Jezza Screen, face painting and hair braiding, Fox cycling demo and a piloxercise flash mob, the latest exercise craze which sees Afro-Caribbean-inspired fitness fusion for an up-tempo aerobic workout. Bristol Zoo’s latest resident, Denzel the Dino will also be roaming the village as he’s set free from Dinomania for the two days.

If all that exploring the village has made you hungry, food deals include a special barbeque from the Clifton Sausage, fresh French galettes and crepes from the Bristol Fringe, a great fish and chip offer from Fishers, a barbeque outside No 4, Taco Van on Kings Road and food samples from Spicer + Cole.

The festival will continue on Sunday 9th July with performers including the Christchurch Community Choir, Ian Lawton, Elles Bailey, Magician Alex Fisher, Maaki Siegerist & Jonni Slater and The Conversation. As the sun starts to go down the festivities will carry into the evening with an eclectic mix of live bands, musicians and singers taking to the stage in various venues through Clifton Village, including The Hotel Trio at the Avon Gorge , live poetry at the Bristol Fringe and a set from Soul DJ at the Brunel Wine Bar.

The action packed weekend promises to be a festival of fun and celebration of local talent in the community.
