Things to do with the Kids in Bristol this Summer

The school holidays are here which means the kids need entertaining over the long summer break! But there’s no need to panic, as our guide features a host of special events and outdoor fun for kids, from the Gromit Unleashed Trail to spending time with the animals at Noah's Ark Farm!

 

1. Gromit Unleashed 2

Probably the biggest event of the city this summer is round 2 of Gromit Unleashed. If you haven't heard about Gromit Unleashed (then you must have been living under a rock, because EVERYONE is talking about it), but it's a trail which is running from 2nd July - 2nd September where you can navigate your way through Bristol in hunt of all the Wallace and Gromit Sculptures. It's a perfect, cheap but fun day out for the kids!

2. Around the World in 37 Days at Noah's Ark Farm

Noah's Ark Zoo Farm is home to a diverse range of species that are native to the far corners of the Earth. To celebrate this, Noah's Ark Zoo Farm are taking a trip around the continents during the summer holidays. Bring the kids along to experience Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe and America - all in one place! 

Enjoy the Siamang Gibbon feeding, take part in spraying down the Emus, hand feed the giraffes, meet and greet the Birds of Prey, watch the Skunks and Bears being fed and much more!

3. Friday Twilights at Bristol Zoo

Bristol Zoo's sell out Friday Twilights are back! Ever wanted to hear the howl of the gibbons or the roar of lions as the sun sets? Well this summer you can, with Bristol Zoo's Friday Twilights. At just £5, it makes an inexpensive evening out, perfect for all the family. Enjoy live music, the chance to explore the gardens in full bloom, discover more about your favourite animals and transform into them with face painting!

4. Super Pirates Holiday Club at Avon Valley 

The awesome Super Pirates holiday club at Avon Valley is open again this Summer! Guided by the qualified Super Pirates crew, children will enjoy a world of adventure, including: a huge indoor soft play area, outdoor adventure playground, mini golf, climbing, animal handling, arts and crafts, boating, face painting, air pillows, pig racing and falconry shows!

5. Bristol International Balloon Fiesta 

The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is Europe’s largest annual meeting of hot air balloons, attracting over 130 Hot Air Balloons from across the globe. And it's FREE, making it the perfect event to take the whole family along to. The whole weekend will be packed full of entertainment for all ages, fairground rides, and of course, beautiful hot air balloons filling the sky.

6. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland at Wild Place Project

Presented by Chapterhouse Theatre Company, this fantastic open-air performance will take place in the unique grounds of Wild Place Project - just a stone-throw away from our amazing animals. Once you’ve explored the park, pitch up with your blanket and settle in for a trip down the rabbit hole. Although this is for kids, all ages will love this classic and with your ticket including entry to the Wild Place from 3pm, you can make the most of the whole afternoon/evening!

7. Grandparents Day at Avon Valley Railway 

It's Grandparents Day over the summer at Avon Valley Railway and well-behaved Grandparents travel for half price when accompanied by at least one paying child! Bring them along for a fun ride on one of the fabulous steam trains!
