Total Guide to Bristol's Gromit Unleashed 2 Trail

Thinking of taking on the Gromit Unleashed 2 trail this summer? It's a lot of fun, but with over 60 giant sculptures, it takes a lot of planning. Here's a few tips on how to make the most of the GU2 Trail.

Download the Detect-O-Gromit App or pick up a map!

To make your trail much more fun and stress free - Gromit Unleashed have released an app 'Detect-O-Gromit 2' to help you navigate yourself to and from the sculptures. Not only does the app show you exactly where you can find the huge variety of Gromits, but it also allows you to take photos with each sculpture to upload, collect awards and find out more about each sculpture.

Download the app for iPhone here

If you prefer the old school method however, you can pick up a trail paper map from the following locations:

  • The Gromit Unleashed Shop at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway
  • Bristol Museum & Art Gallery
  • Bristol Suspension Bridge Visitor Centre
  • M Shed
  • Tourist Information Centre
  • Aerospace Bristol
  • Gromit Unleashed HQ on Upper Maudlin Street
  • The Grand Pier at Weston-Super-Mare

Plan your travel

With 60+ different sculptures scattered all around the town, walking the entire trip isn't going to be an option. Many of the Gromit sculptures are nearby (especially in the centre), however many of them are more further afield, as far as Weston Super Mare! So before you set off, it's best to plan how you'll be getting around to each sculpture you plan to visit. Luckily, Bristol is fantastic for public transport so you won't be stuck for travel.

Plan your journeys here!

Choose the sculptures you definitely want to visit

If you're planning on spending a day on the Gromit Unleashed Trail, it's going to be borderline impossible to complete the entire thing. So if you don't have the time to spend any longer on it, pick out your favourite looking sculptures, or any that relate/feel special to you in any way. This also means you're not rushing around and worrying about running out of time. Click here for the full list with images of the Gromit Sculptures!

Try and avoid weekends!

Central Bristol is a busy at the best of times, so you can only imagine how chaotic the weekends during the Gromit Trail will be. Opt for doing the trail on a weekday instead, as not only will you avoid the crowds, but you'll be able to spend as much time as you wish taking photos and getting up close and personal with the Gromit sculptures, giving you a more relaxed experience.

Make a city getaway of it!

If you're really set on completing the full trail, then you're going to need a few days as opposed to just one. There are 60+ sculptures to see after all!

Although following the Gromit trail will allow you to see a lot of the city anyway, there are so many iconic tourist attractions to tick off whilst you're there. For a list of all Bristol's must-visit attractions, click here!

One final thing - ENJOY!

The Gromit Unleashed trail is only running until 2nd September so make the most of it and just enjoy the stunning sculptures around the beautiful city! There is also the option to donate at the Gromit Unleashed sculptures, (contactless too!) which all goes towards Bristol Children's Hospital. Please donate if you can - it's a fantastic cause!

So there we have it! Here are our top tips on how to make the most of the Gromit Unleashed 2 Trail. Should you need anymore information, visit the Gromit Unleashed website. We'd love to see your photos of you taking part in the trail, so be sure to tweet us at @Total_Bristol!
