Fishponds is located in north-east Bristol and is only a few miles from the centre, with its intriguing name coming from the fact that the area was once home to old quarry pits which were filled with water.

It is a large suburb which has plenty to offer visitors and here we are going to have a look at five specific reasons why we think you should plan a visit today.

Oldbury Court

The Oldbury Court Estate is one of the real gems that can be found just a short distance from Bristol city centre. It has something for everyone, from beautiful woodland, riverside walks and fantastic parkland.

First mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1066, paths from the estate also lead to other places of interest including the beautiful area known as Snuff Mills.

Fun for little ones

One of the real highlights of a visit to Oldbury Court is its impressive play area, which is sure to keep kids of all ages entertained for a long time. Fishponds offers more entertainment for little ones too, however, with the Cheeky Monkeys indoor soft play centre also being located nearby. The site features loads of fun for pre-school children and is sure to be a big hit.

Bingo

Now it is time for the adults to have some fun. Bingo has experienced a sharp rise in popularity in recent years, so why not head along with friends or family to the Buzz Bingo site on Fishponds Road to see what all of the fuss is about?

A range of different sessions run throughout the week and the food and drinks offers may come in handy as you plan a night out.

Getting fit

Another great reason to visit Fishponds is that the area is home to one of Bristol’s largest and – perhaps most importantly – cheapest gyms. Located in the Channons Hill Retail Park, Xercise4Less features more than 400 pieces of equipment and also has a separate ladies-only gym.

Its fitness studio hosts a range of different events and classes too, so check out the website and see how you can get active today.

Snuffy Jack's Ale House

In the past couple of years, Fishponds has been at the heart of the growing micropub trend in Bristol. Several bars which have a focus on offering locals a traditional atmosphere have emerged in the city recently, with one of our favourites being Snuffy Jack's Ale House.

It offers a range of real ale and other beverages, with CAMRA members also benefiting from a discount on pints.

A fantastic area

The bright lights of the city centre may attract many people, but it is fair to say that Bristol is home to a range of other interesting areas. As this article shows, Fishponds offers something for everyone and we think the suburb is undoubtedly worth a visit.
