New Study Shows the Value of Business Branding

The result of a new study commissioned by retailer 4imprint has shown just how much UK shoppers value the importance of strong branding.

You might think that your business will do well enough on the quality of its service alone, but the fact is that branding remains one of the most important and effective marketing tools at your disposal. Some of the points in the survey results are a surprise and serve to highlight just how essential branding is when it comes to generating profits and establishing a loyal customer base. Here’s everything you need to know about UK shoppers and the brands that they love.

Spending on Brands

If you think that Brits are more likely to buy a bargain than a brand, then you might be in for a shock!

More than half UK consumers admitted in the www.4imprint.co.uk commissioned survey that they are happy to spend more money on a product from a well-known brand.

It is most commonly seen during the weekly supermarket shopping trip, where UK shoppers are not just willing to spend around 12% more on brands than non-branded goods, they are also more likely to make a point of buying those brands.

Which brands are successful?

In terms of brand awareness, the most popular companies are not a surprise. The full results of the study have shown that the most popular brands that are usually purchased on the strength of their name and brand recognition alone are:

1. Costa

2. Cadbury's

3. Apple

4. Samsung

5. Coca-Cola

6. Heinz

7. Amazon

8. Adidas

9. Marks and Spencer

10. Kellogg's

It’s not just about how much price people are willing to pay either. A significant factor of brand purchasing is the ability to display branded goods easily. For example, 28% of those surveyed said that they like to step out with their Adidas stripes on their trainers, and 52% said that they like to be able to show their branded coffee cups from Costa or Starbucks when travelling on the train. 4imprint, the company that commissioned the study, said:

“Our results found brand names are hugely important to many. Branding is the cornerstone of marketing – if you get your logo and brand identity right, it can have a huge impact on the success of your business.”

If a third of Brits feel pride when showing off their logos, and more than half say that they prefer it when their branded products have a clearly visible logo, then it quickly becomes clear that ‘brand snobbery’ is a very real factor in today's business landscape. It goes further as well, as there are some products that Brits simply won’t buy non-branded versions of. These include:

1. Trainers

2. Coffee

3. Shampoo

4. Deodorant

5. Alcohol

6. Tea

7. Ketchup

8. Beans

9. Cereal

10. Conditioner

Your business branding is an essential part of your marketing strategy. Having a stronger brand awareness is vital for your business, and if you’ve dismissed the need fora stronger focus on your current branding strategy, then it might be time to rethink.
