The People's Grand Prix is a New Favourite on Jessie May's Fundraising Calendar!

Local charity Jessie May, which provides hospice and respite care for terminally ill children and their families within their own homes, is celebrating after raising over £2600 at one of its newest fundraising events.

The People’s Grand Prix was held for the second time in September with over 70 participants jogging, walking or pushing their way around the 3km wheelchair-friendly track at Odd Down Sports Ground.

The fantastic amount raised through sponsorship and donations on the day means that the event will definitely go ahead again in 2018.

Julian Withers, head of fundraising at Jessie May, said: “When we introduce new fundraising events it is always a bit nerve-wracking to see whether they will capture people’s interest or not and often new events take a few years to gain popularity.

“To raise almost £3000 for Jessie May and to attract such a big turn-out in its second year is fantastic and we already have plans in place for the 2018 event!

“We will be bringing the event forward to July and will be officially launching in January when people will be able to sign up.”

Jessie May’s People’s Grand Prix is in association with the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation and Better.

As well as the 3km sponsored walk or jog, participants can enjoy a family fun day with an afternoon of activities and hot food and refreshments.

Odd Down Sports Ground’s general manager, Ruth Rich, said: “We are very happy that we have been able to support Jessie May to deliver the successful People’s Grand Prix event. It is superb to see the cycle track used for community events such as this and we have already started making plans for next year’s event.”

Jessie May cares for terminally ill children within their own homes in Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Wiltshire. The specialist nurses provide medical, emotional and bereavement support and offer much-needed respite time for parents and siblings. It costs around £1,200,000 to provide this care yearly so public support like this is vital.
