Spread the festive cheer: Office Christmas Decorating Tips

Here’s Rombourne Serviced Offices top tips on how to decorate your office this Christmas.
The days are getting shorter, there’s a distinct chill in the air, and we’ve taken our chunkiest jumpers, scarves, and hats out of storage to help us wrap up against the cold. Yep, this can only mean one thing; December’s finally here, and Christmas is just around the corner once again!

With just a few weeks to go until the big day, now’s the perfect time to grab the tree, lights, and tinsel, and start decorating your office for Christmas. Plus, with 84% of workers claiming that their businesses need to make more of an effort to spread the festive joy each year, you don’t want to leave it too late. After all, just putting the Christmas decorations up in your office is a quick and simple way of boosting staff morale.

However, you’ll need to do more than hang up a few baubles to spread the festive cheer in your office! Not only that, but you’ll need to choose between a real or artificial Christmas tree, and decide whether you want to incorporate a more traditional or modern decorating style.

Unsure of where to start? Get inspired with our office Christmas decorating tips…

Should you choose a real or artificial Christmas tree?

Your office’s festive decorating wouldn’t be complete without a Christmas tree, and there’s a number of factors to consider when choosing the perfect one for your business, such as whether to opt for the ‘real deal’ or an artificial alternative. This decision will be based largely on where you want to put your tree (such as indoors or outdoors), how much floor space you have to work with, and the look and feel you want to achieve with your tree.

“One of the advantages of choosing a real Christmas tree for the office is that they can provide a more ‘traditional’ feel due to their unique and uplifting pine fragrance, and their authentic, less symmetrical shape. However, real trees are a better option for outdoors, or a corner of the office with a lower level of footfall as their dropped needles present a trip hazard ” said Deemer Cass, a Christmas tree delivery professional at Fantastic Services.

If your office is limited in space, an artificial Christmas tree might be the best option for your business. This is because there are far more size options to choose from. Unlike real Christmas trees, an artificial alternative also won’t drop needles or need to be watered every day, so they require less maintenance if you’re short on time or resources.

Another difference between real and fake Christmas trees is that the latter can hold more decorations. So, whether you decide to choose the real or artificial option, one thing’s for certain; both can be used to create a spectacular display to add a festive feel to the office!

Choose your festive decorating style

Now that you’ve decided whether you want a real or artificial Christmas tree for your office, you need to start decorating it (and the rest of your office space, of course). However, before you can do that, you need to choose a side when it comes to your theme; traditional or modern?

If you instantly think of warm shades of green, red, and gold when you envision a Christmas tree, then a more traditional style may be the best choice. To get the look, bring out the tinsel and drape it across every available surface (so long as they don’t present a health and safety hazard!), hang up wreathes, garlands and stockings, and adorn your tree with classic multi-coloured lights.

When it comes to tree ornaments, classic round baubles (which can be either shiny, matte, or sparkly; whichever you prefer!) are a good place to start, and you can add further interest by adding ornaments in various traditional shapes, such as bells, stars, ribbons, boxed presents, doves, angels, and reindeer, as well as cinnamon sticks and fake pinecones.

To achieve a more modern style when decorating the office for Christmas, ditch the warmer tones for cool shades of silver, blue, purple, and pink, or incorporate pastels for something a little different. In fact, if you’re choosing to opt for a more contemporary feel, you could even go for an artificial tree in a different colour to match your office’s existing décor, such as pink or white.

In terms of tree ornaments, now’s also a good chance to incorporate designs that either relate to your company’s branding in some way, simply fit your personal preferences, or match the existing look and feel of your office. When it comes to modern tree ornaments, there are countless options to choose from; think miniature disco balls, baubles in the shapes of hearts, butterflies, and various animals, and even feathers!

Be creative with your office’s Christmas decorations!

A real Christmas tree (or an artificial alternative that looks just like the real thing) are just the ticket if you want to be more conventional when decorating the office for Christmas. Nonetheless, if you want to be a little daring, you could instead opt for a wooden Christmas tree or twig Christmas tree to hang your baubles and lights on!

A ‘naked’ Christmas tree not for you? There’s plenty of other ways to get creative. Swap tabletop trees with bauble bowls, hang ornaments and other decorations from the ceiling, or if you really don’t have the space for a tree in certain areas of your building, you could be really artistic by hanging lights and baubles on the wall in the shape of one.

Now that you have some office Christmas decorating tips and inspiration to help you spread festive cheer in the workplace, it’s time to get those deccies up, chuck on your cheesiest Christmas jumper, and start blasting out the best festive playlist you can find!
