Your Total Guide To community
Given the short distance between the city and Cheltenham, many horse racing fans from Bristol will be attending the 2022 Cheltenham Festival in March. The four-day event is the biggest National Hunt meeting of the year, with over 250,000 spectators expected to flock to the course across the four days.
Here is a guide to everything you need to know about the jumps meeting this year.
Who are the star horses at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival?
All four of last season’s Championship winners at the Festival are set to line up in the same races this year, as they bid to defend their crown. One of those is Gold Cup winner Minella Indo. He is 4/1 to win the feature race again, while those looking to back the chaser may be able to qualify for the best Cheltenham betting offer, which will give them a free bet on this race. Honeysuckle is another major star bidding to prevail again in the Champion Hurdle. The Irish horse remains unbeaten in 14 appearances. She is odds-on to score in the feature race on day one of the meeting.
If you are attending the Festival on day two, you are likely to see dual-Grand National winner Tiger Roll in action. Unfortunately for his supporters, he will not be lining up at Aintree this year for a shot at a third Grand National. His connections have said the Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham is likely to be the last run of his career. He is sure to get a great reception at the end of that race.
When is the 2022 Cheltenham Festival?
The 2022 Cheltenham Festival takes place between Tuesday, 15th March and Friday, 18th March. The latter is Gold Cup Day, which features the Blue Riband event of the meeting, the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
How easy is it to get to Cheltenham Racecourse from Bristol?
Cheltenham Racecourse is just over 42 miles away from Bristol. As long as you don’t encounter any traffic on the way, you should be able to reach the venue in under an hour. Those looking to travel by train can do so from Bristol Temple Meads to Cheltenham Spa. Direct services take 41 minutes and there are frequent services throughout the day. If you are looking to stay in Cheltenham overnight, try to book as early as possible as demand for rooms is very high across the week.
What else is on offer at Cheltenham Racecourse?
Although the action on the course is the centre of attention at the Festival, there are lots of other options available to you, if you want to make your visit extra special. The racecourse offers some excellent hospitality packages, which include a meal and viewing from one of their private boxes.
The racecourse also puts on live music throughout the day and after racing, so it is worth checking out the schedule for each day to see who is performing and for the timings.
Enjoy your visit to this year’s Festival if you are lucky enough to be going. You are sure to have a great time and hopefully you back a few winners to make it even more memorable.
