New Mural by Oshii Brings Colour and Conversation to Bristol City Centre
A vibrant new pavement mural is bringing colour and conversation to the heart of Bristol. Local artist Oshii (Oisín Davis-Lyons) has transformed a central pedestrian area with a striking piece of public art titled Our Common Ground.
The large-scale mural draws on African heritage, world history and the voices of today’s communities, weaving them together into a thought-provoking design. Oshii is a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, painting, collage and murals.
Funded by Bristol City Council and the Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District, the mural is part of the ongoing Centre Promenade improvement project. Alongside the artwork, the area will also see the installation of new planters and flowerbeds, helping to create a greener, more welcoming city space.
Describing the mural, the Bristol City Centre BID explains how Our Common Ground not only brightens the promenade but captures a much deeper message:
“Covering 704.4 square metres, the artwork is painted directly onto the tarmac at Centre Promenade – positioned on land that was once part of the Floating Harbour. Our Common Ground draws on African heritage, world history and present-day community voices. Its bold colours and layered imagery invite people to reflect on journeys, memory and identity, while imagining a shared future built on care and respect.”
