Whether your motivation is saving the environment or saving money, the National Self Build & Renovation Centre's programme of Eco Workshops should have the answers you’re looking for!
The NSBRC has cut through the ‘greenwash’ to bring you a wealth of independent and informed advice and information on the latest energy-efficient technologies, products and services; sustainability; environmentally responsible building principals and retrofitting of existing properties.
Each Eco Workshop focuses on a particular phase or aspect of energy-efficient homebuilding, so you can pick and choose which Workshops to attend that are most relevant to your particular project – or come along to all four, as you’re bound to discover something new each time!
Industry experts will be on hand throughout the day to provide you with the opportunity to discuss your green ideas, designs and any plans you have for your home.
ECO WORKSHOPS 2019:
Eco Design, Planning & Sustainability - 16th February
Find out first hand how your designs, lifestyle and specification choices could impact on your home’s energy performance. This day promises to answer all your design and planning questions, covering everything from the more traditional methods to more modern higher performance buildings. It will also cover legislative drivers and government initiatives as well as current incentives.
Building Systems & Project Management - 15th June
This day will look at the particulars that are required when building a high performance property or one that utilises natural materials. It will also cover the role that the self builder plays in the construction process, whether it be self project managing, package managing or using sub contractors – addressing the relative merits and drawbacks of each route.
You will find out how to package all these things together to make sure that you end up with the home that delivers according to your original design brief, budget and future living expectations.
Heat & Energy - 17th August
Get the answers that the salesmen might not tell you on everything from heat pumps to solar panels; what’s new, what works and what are the practical issues that need to be considered when installing such renewable technologies, including who does what and how it all connects together. This is your opportunity to get the facts straight from the experts and hear what’s happening with government incentives around these products and services in terms of helping you understand the green investment opportunities they offer, as well as any financial implications you need to consider.
Retrofit Eco Solutions - 9th November
This workshop covers one of the most important eco issues today: What practical measures can be taken with existing buildings to make them more sustainable and energy efficient? NSBRC experts will explain the options available to those interested in retrofitting eco technologies into their homes and advise on everything from achieving air tightness, insulation requirements and design considerations, to ventilation issues and how to choose between the array of windows and doors that are on the market.
