Christmas Party Fashion

Whether it’s an office do, a girly night out or a glam house gathering, it’s definitely gearing up towards the Christmas party outfit season. The usual questions include “tights or no tights?”, “what can I wear so I don’t freeze?” or even “should I attempt not to wear black this year?”.

I’ve got all the answers for you in this full proof Christmas party fashion guide, including the best places on the high street for some real party bargains!

SAY YES TO THE DRESS (OR NOT)

Centre your outfit around one key piece, then you can accessorise around it. A lot of people are often on the lookout for an amazing dress that will tick all the boxes, however don’t feel like you have to go down that avenue. Jumpsuits are a good option for a comfortable party look, or you can even go one smarter and find a matching blazer and trouser suit.

Whatever you choose, whether it be plain or full of glitter and sequins, once you’ve chosen it you’ll be able to find the right shoes, bag and accessories to go with it.

CAN YOU WEAR IT AGAIN?

The dress I’m wearing in this outfit is a midi length black dress from River Island. It’s a lovely party piece which is easy to wear and easy to accessorise, but it can also double up as the ideal work dress with ankle boots and a blazer. When looking for a party outfit, consider whether you can wear it to work or other festive events you have coming up.

DON’T WEAR ANYTHING TOO TIGHT

Does your office do involve a 100 course meal and a night on the dancefloor? Mine certainly does, and I remember once I wore the tightest ever dress to a Christmas party and could barely eat a thing. Comfort is key, and something loose around the stomach would be ideal. Wrap dresses are great for this as you can tie them as tight as you like!

LAYER UP

To avoid the whole ‘freezing the death in my tiny dress’ syndrome, invest in a smart coat. Good examples of these could be a trench coat, a structured pea coat, a thick blazer, or a faux fur coat (like I’m wearing here). The best place for coats this season is definitely New Look, and they have some lovely faux fur ones for amazing prices. By matching your coat to your party outfit you’ll still feel dressed up when wearing it.

DON’T FORGET ACCESSORIES

You’ve chosen the outfit and now you can think about everything else. If you’ve got a plain dress/jumpsuit, opt for some coloured earrings or bag, but if your dress/jumpsuit is colourful or full of prints, then accessorise with simple black, silver or gold options. Your accessories are where you can really get festive with sequins, glitter and colour! Every year I bring out this Dorothy Perkins clutch bag and it always goes with anything I buy – I’d definitely head there or to Debenhams for party bags!

SHOES THAT YOU CAN WEAR ALL NIGHT

In December I swear we all flick a switch and go into fun, festive party mode – just me?! Keep in your comfort zone when it comes to shoes and if you know you can’t walk in major high heels, DON’T! I’m a sucker for a smart ankle boot for parties, and they always work if you feel like you need to wear tights with your outfit. If you want to go all out with sexy shoes, some good places to try are Quiz at Debenhams, Next or TK Maxx.

Shopping for your Christmas party is supposed to be FUN, so enjoy it! I hope you have an amazing time at whatever festive events you’re attending this year, and let me know what outfits you put together – I’d love to see!
