TGtB Meets...Lucy Watson

Daniel Flay caught up with Made in Chelsea's Lucy Watson to talk about Bristol Fashion Week, her jewellery line and her favourite Spring/Summer trends of 2015.

You've modelled for Lipsy and designed your own jewellery range, is fashion something that you've always been interested in?

I've always loved fashion and current trends; as a teenager I would spend hours getting dressed up, and putting outfits together with my little sister. Looking back, it's really funny to see how my style has changed over the years, 10 years ago I was a bit of a girly girl, who loved dresses, whereas nowadays I see myself as more of a tomboy.

Can you believe the amazing opportunities that MIC has given you in the fashion world?

It's a dream come true. Before appearing in Made in Chelsea, I studied drama and the arts, so I'm quite a creative person. I have a huge imagination and loads of ideas, so it's cool to be able to put that into my work. I'm especially proud of my jewellery line, Creature.

Speaking of your jewellery line, how involved are you in the design process?

I collaborated on the line with an incredibly talented friend who studied at Central Saint Martins. She's worked for some huge designers, so it was great to have her on board! I can't draw either, so she was an essential part of bringing my visions to life. She handmade a lot of the pieces herself and gave me some really great advice about running my own business and working in the jewellery industry.

Where do the ideas for your pieces come from are they designed with anyone in mind?

On the whole, Creature is very urban and funky. There are some really great statement pieces like the fang and claw-shaped bracelets as well as some subtler designs too. If you don't like animals though, you probably won't like my collection. The line is very much inspired by the type of jewellery that I like to wear. I adore animals, so each piece bears a resemblance to a different type of wildlife.

How are you planning to spend your downtime in Bristol?

I may be a Chelsea girl but I like to think that I know Bristol quite well. My friends went to Bristol University, so I always used to head down and visit them at weekends. If there's time I'd love to hit the town again one night after the show. I normally like to go to Brown's in Clifton for cocktails and then on to Pam Pam.

Where do you like to shop? What are your favourite fashion brands?

I'm very much a High Street girl, unless I'm investing in a statement designer piece. I change my outfits literally every single day, so I'm a huge Topshop, Zara, and Urban Outfitters fan - you'll literally never see me in the same thing twice. Before appearing in Made in Chelsea, I didn't really care about stuff like that; I miss being able to wear my favourite jumper every single day without anyone saying anything. Now I'm conscious about mixing things up and making sure that I wear a range of different looks.

Do you find it flattering that girls aspire to dress like you? How would you describe your style?

I embrace it. I love it. I think it's really cool. I take a lot of pride in what I wear, so it's a massive compliment when girls are inspired by my look. I'd say that my style is quite sporty and preppy but it also has a really feminine edge.

Which spring/summer trend are you most excited about?

I don't necessarily follow trends religiously, but I do try and play with them from time to time. Generally speaking, I have my own sense of style and I like to stick to it. That said I'm loving the 70s trend at the moment. It ties in so well with other huge spring/summer looks like floral and denim, so you know if you combine the three, you're going to look fab.

Which item in your wardrobe couldn't you live without?

Every woman needs a great pair of jeans, that fit well and make them look and feel amazing.

Finally, you always look amazing on Made in Chelsea - what are your beauty secrets?

I think less is more; so I'm a huge advocate of the natural look. In my opinion you never want it to look like you're wearing a lot of make-up. I've just discovered this amazing new mascara by Chantecaille and I'm obsessed with it. There's a special treatment inside the product that makes your eye lashes grow as you're wearing it.
