Bristol Limbers Up for The 2014 Bristol 10K

With the 2014 Bristol 10K fast approaching race organisers are preparing for an action-packed weekend.

Thousands of runners, their families, friends and work colleagues along with hundreds of volunteers will be turning out for one of Bristol’s biggest spring sporting events.

Racing wheelchair participants start first, with the first wave of runners, including some of the UK’s and world’s elite runners starting at 9.30am. This year will once again see British runners participating in the RunBritain Grand Prix - competing not just for RUNBRISTOL prize money but also for Grand Prix Awards.

Race winners will be presented with their prizes on the main stage in the Event Village, Millennium Square. As well as receiving special medals for the first three male and first three female runners to cross the line – there are top individual prizes of £500. There are also special British award categories, aimed at home-grown talent, with the chance to win further prize awards of up to £500 with the overall British runner being awarded the Nick Rose 10k Challenge Trophy which will be presented by the Bristol Olympian.

“Race day is always exciting,” says race director, Georgette Van Hoof. “It’s an amazing sporting event with the elite runners coming back across the finish line in UNDER 30 minutes. For most runners though, it’s all about achieving a personal goal, a celebration of running success and raising money for race charities, which this year are Clic Sargent, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal and COCO.

“The Bristol 10K is a great day out for spectators too. Thousands line the route and cheer the runners along and over on College Green and in Millennium Square we have a big, race-day event atmosphere.”

The 2014 Bristol 10K incorporates nearly 170 running teams within the Clarke Willmott Business Challenge.  The business challenge helps employees keep physically fit by promoting regular running and also creates team-building opportunities by offering prizes for the fastest teams.
