Spotless Charity Gala Ball 2019

On Friday 12th July 2019 at Bowood House, Calne, Spotless held a Charity Gala Ball to raise money and awareness for Dyslexia. Total Guide to Bristol went along to show our support and here are some photos of the night. Proceeds are being split between Sheldon secondary school in Wiltshire to purchase learning aids, such as smart tablets for the SEN department and nationally to the British Dyslexia Association, and Internationally to The Rare Gem Talent School in Kenya. Six year old Lucas Talbot, who suffers with a congenital heart defect, delighted shoppers at Clarks Village when he switched on the Christmas lights with his twin brother Isaac and Ed, Troy & Paulina from Heart Breakfast to herald the start of the festive season. A patient at the Children’s Unit of Bristol Royal Infirmary, Lucas was chosen for the honour and brought to the event by Martha Care, the Clarks Village Charity of the Year. In September Lucas was a winner of the Child of Courage Award at the Pride of Somerset Awards 2015.

During the event, competitors journeyed along the picturesque harbourside and under the Clifton Suspension Bridge before returning to the finish line at Anchor Road. Jonah Chesum was the fastest male with a time of 29'17", while the winner of the women's race Louise Damen, made her way around the course in 33'40".

The folded notes were dispersed and hidden all around the city as part of a Gorilla Marketing campaign by insurance specialists Beagle Street. City Sightseeing Bristol ensured that Jenny Jones received a homecoming fit for an Olympian. The bronze medallist was welcomed home with a parade through her home town of Downend before journeying into Bristol for a civic reception at City Hall. The bus was adorned with ‘welcome home’ banners, flags, bunting and was accompanied by police out-riders throughout its journey. Despite living in Downend, South Gloucestershire Jenny is proud to say she's from Bristol. The neighbouring councils worked together to create a special celebration event to recognise her win.

While millions of lovers had the traditional romantic meal for two on Valentine’s Day this year, more than 120 revellers packed into Bristol’s stunning The Milk Thistle for the first event from new organisation Prohibition Bristol. Inspired by classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel The Great Gatsby, partygoers wearing spats, white ties, pearl necklaces and feather hair bands sipped cocktails while being entertained by music from the Roaring Twenties. Glamorous dancers mingled amongst the crowd, pianists tickled the ivories and attendees were taught how to make the perfect drink in cocktail masterclasses. Not the most obvious way to spend Valentine’s night but a great evening was had by all!

Snapped: Bristol Christmas Market 2013

Bristol's traditional Christmas German Market is back and bigger than ever. Housed in quaint wooden chalet-style stalls, market traders sell unique gifts, original homemade crafts and German-themed food and drink like Glühwein and Bratwurst. Between browsing the stalls, visitors can kick back and relax in the Bavarian beer garden and enjoy classic festive tunes performed by the Salvation Army band. The market is located along the pedestrianised streets of Broadmead and is open every day from 10am until 7pm until Sunday 22nd December.

Snapped: Cinderella Lights up Bristol

On Friday 8th November, Bristol Shopping Quarter switched on its Christmas Lights in true theatrical style. Thousands braved the cold to attend the magical Cinderella-themed event. Singer and actress Suzanne Shaw, who is performing as Cinderella in this year’s Christmas pantomime at Bristol Hippodrome was on hand to add a touch of glamour to the proceedings. Children were delighted as Cinderella and Prince Charming lead a magical procession from The Galleries through Broadmead to Cabot Circus in their storybook pumpkin carriage. Once they arrived at Cabot Circus, crowds were treated to a spectacular show under the centre's iconic glass roof which saw acrobats from this year’s Circus Festival wow with a series of flips, twists and tricks before Cinderella transformed into the belle of the ball to illuminate the Christmas Lights.
