Can Bristol City avoid relegation this season?

With over half the season played, Bristol City are in a relegation dogfight.

Their position isn’t quite as precarious as that of Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic but the club are certainly in trouble. In fact, Coral are currently pricing the Robins at 13/5 for relegation this season.

However, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic and City are now looking to press on after Steve Cotterill was sacked earlier this month. Here’s why the Robins are more than capable of defying the odds and avoiding the drop this campaign.

Last season, Bristol City were promoted to England’s second tier after cruising to the League One title. Unfortunately, they have struggled to cope with the demands of the Championship and find themselves fighting for survival.

It was always going to be tough for the Robins and plenty of punters were offering football tips on Bristol City to suffer relegation at the first time of asking this season, however they are not necessarily destined for the drop just yet – but it’s crucial that a new manager is appointed soon.

Bristol City have improved considerably since parting ways with Cotterill and the results support this. While they have lost three of their last four games, the Robins haven’t been battered and all four matches have been settled by the odd goal.

The Robins are desperate for a bit of luck and that may be all it takes to turn their season around. They aren’t a bad side and with some added fortune, Bristol City could find themselves climbing the division in the near future.

Next up for Bristol City is a home fixture against Birmingham City. The visitors recently lost star youngster Demarai Gray to Leicester City and punters may be tempted to back the Robins in this clash. In fact, it might be wise to warm up at Coral’s website with the latest news on both sides before placing any bets on this encounter.

So, will Bristol City avoid the drop this season? It won’t be easy but the Robins have shown enough in recent weeks to suggest that they are up for the fight. Bristol’s main problem is goals and luck. If they can start finding the net, the luck will come. From there, it would take a brave man to back against the Robins climbing the division and away from trouble.
