Bristol Energy launches 100% green products powered by local generators as city hits 10 year countdown to carbon neutral target

Bristol Energy has announced its new 100% green electricity and lower carbon gas portfolio of tariffs, largely powered by local wind and solar farms, as the city enters the 10 year countdown to its 2030 carbon neutral target.

On a mission to make Bristol a cleaner, greener and healthier place to live, Bristol Energy has launched three new green products; BE Simply Green, BE Super Green and Big Issue Super Green. These are the only tariffs now available to new customers.

All three products contain only 100% green electricity and lower carbon gas, with a particular focus on sourcing renewable energy from local, South West-based generators.

The BE Super Green and Big Issue Super Green products’ green electricity is sourced directly from UK generators, such as wind power from Wales’ (Ceredigion) Grannell Coop and solar power from Swansea’s Gower Power, with 100% gas carbon offsets. For every switch, Bristol Energy will put aside £20* towards environmental and social projects, such as the One Tree per Child tree planting scheme in Bristol.

Bristol Energy’s new portfolio supports Bristol City Council’s ambition for the city to become carbon neutral by 2030. The Bristol-based energy supplier’s products are in response to Bristol being the first major UK city to announce a climate emergency.

Marek Majewicz, Managing Director at Bristol Energy, said: “As we enter a new decade, 2020 is a significant year for Bristol Energy. We’ll soon reach our fifth year of trading, and, in line with the progressing ambitious City Leap project, we’ve now

hit the 10 year countdown to Bristol’s carbon neutral target (of 2030).

“We are pleased to now only offer green products to new customers, encouraging green energy and supporting local renewable generators across wind, solar, hydro and bio. By sourcing electricity directly from renewable generators, we’re committing to supporting local businesses and communities who generate renewable power, by giving them a route to market and a good price for the power they sell.

“Our new products encourage customers to go green and do their bit for the planet. My message to everyone in Bristol is switch to Bristol Energy and support our city to become a cleaner, greener, healthier place to live.”

Bristol Energy continues to tackle social, as well as environmental, challenges locally and nationally. The green supplier’s Big Issue Super Green product offers customers the opportunity to make a £30 donation (when switching both electricity and gas) to The Big Issue, supporting their work in the community.

As with all of Bristol Energy tariffs, every time someone who recommends a friend to switch to one of their tariffs, their account will receive £20, their friend’s account with receive £20 and Bristol Energy will donate £20 to their Fuel Good Fund, helping tackle fuel poverty.

You can now switch to one of Bristol Energy’s new green tariffs online. Find out more about the products here.
