Worle School Recognised World of Work

Worle Community School recognised for preparing pupils for the world of work.

Worle Community School has successfully gained the Employability Chartermark, an award that recognises educational institutions’ commitment to, investment in and delivery of work-readiness in young people.

In doing so they join other celebrated North Somerset Colleges who have successfully achieved the Employability Chartermark Award; Weston College, Gordano School, Clevedon School, Churchill Academy and Sixth Form and St Katherine’s School.

The independent assessment of the school highlighted many areas of good practice in which the school excels, including high quality Interview skills techniques training.  This is provided to pupils in advance of mock interviews, where students are closely matched to employers that support their aspirations.

Assessors also highlighted the use of psychometric tests to help some students prepare for  selection procedures, resulting in students having a better understanding of what employers are looking for.

Commenting on the award, Norma Jaggon-Barrett, Employability Skills Adviser at Business West said:

“We are delighted to welcome Worle Community School into an illustrious group of schools and colleges in the West of England that have been recognised for putting the development of employability skills high on their school agenda. We congratulate them on their dedication to employer engagement.”

Muriel Evan, Head of Careers at Worle Community School, said:

“This award is a reflection of the commitment that everyone at Worle Community School makes in ensuring  that our students leave with the  best possible skills and highest aspirations to enter the world of work. It allows our students to be competitive in their chosen field and more informed about the choices that may face them post 16.”

The Employability Chartermark is currently delivered by Business West on behalf of the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership. By creating a quality standard it assists educational institutions in going beyond the school’s statutory guidance for careers service delivery. Through this, schools are able to promote best practice in delivering employability skills to young people across the west of England.

To date over 40% of secondary schools in the West of England have gained the Employability Chartermark.
