Festive 13-metre Nativity Pyramid Craned into Bristol For German Christmas Market Launch

A GIANT 13-metre high rotating nativity pramid has been craned into Bristol’s shopping quarter ahead of the launch of the city’s seventh German Christmas Market

The festive feature, which will be the focal point of the Broadmead Christmas market, was lifted into place last night (Monday 3rd of November) ahead of its official opening on the 7th.

It will rotate 360 degrees and its nativity scene will remind shoppers of the origins of Christmas and shall operate alongside a giant advert calendar window and new ice rink.

It took 20-hours to bring it to England from the traditional market town of Ankum and was joined by a convey of German lorries armed with traditional wooden style chalets.

The chalet stalls are also now being set up and will be adorned with lights and greenery to offer a festive atmosphere in the heart of the shopping area from November 7-December 22.

Andree Langenscheidt and Harry Wegener of WELA Märkte GmbH, the firm behind the market, said: “The markets stretch back for generations in Germany and we set out to create something special every year.

“The new rotating nativity pyramid will be the central point of the market and after seeing it being craned into place, I am certain it will create a magical festive atmosphere for shoppers to enjoy.”

Market traders will sell a mixture of German Christmas decorations, lights, nativity scenes and gifts including wooden toys, baskets, soaps, lamps and amber jewellery.

There will also be lorry loads of Bratwurst, waffles, liquorice, stollen cake, gingerbread hearts, candied fruit and German beer on offer to keep shoppers refuelled in the beer gardens.

Entertainment will include performances from Der Alpen Klaus, who entertains crowds at the Munich Beer festival and similar events all over the country.

He will perform both Christmas and Bavarian style music, as well as his own version of popular music.

The advert calendar will be opened daily at 4pm from December 1-24 by Father Christmas who will then give away free presents to young children.

More information on the market, open Monday to Saturday 10am-7pm and Sunday 10am-6pm, can be found at bristolgermanchristmasmarket.co.uk or by emailing info@german-christmas-market.de
