The Sun Sets on the Boulevard at The Bristol Hippodrome

There's not a soul in the theatre business that doesn't recognise the name 'Andrew Lloyd Webber' and this year BLOC is bringing his spectacular story of Sunset Boulevard to the Bristol Hippodrome.

This September Bristol's own multi award-winning production company, BLOC Productions, invite you to their musical sensation Sunset Boulevard. The stars of the future will once again take to the stage at The Bristol Hippodrome.

Sunset Boulevard tells a wonderful tale of past glories and unfulfilled ambitions. The plot revolves around Norma Desmond, a faded star of the silent screen era. Having been discarded by tinsel town with the introduction of ‘talkies’, her path is accidentally crossed by a young screenwriter, Joe Gillis, and she sees in him a new opportunity, and a chance to make her comeback.

With an ensemble of over 40 incredible local performers and a dynamic live orchestra, West End director and award-winning choreographer, Andrew Wright, directs this year’s production.

Having grown up in Somerset, Andrew graced the stage in numerous musicals across the county before leaving to find fame and fortune in London, from where he has worked on a diverse range of West End and regional shows as both a dancer and a director/choreographer.

Wright commented, “The chance to direct and choreograph one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's finest musicals at The Bristol Hippodrome was a hugely exciting prospect. Then when you add to that BLOC's reputation and a huge company, sourced from the finest amateur talent in the South West, it was a simple decision."

Combining both romance and tragedy, stunning costumes and lavish sets, Sunset Boulevard includes some truly haunting melodies.
