Your Total Guide To entertainment
The great thing about living in Bristol is that you don’t have to wait until the weekend for the great gigs to roll around.
Our gig of the week this week see’s Aussie Indy-poppers The Stroppies come to town as part of a hugely successful European tour.
The brainchild of Claudia (Bass, Vocals) & Gus (Guitar, Vocals), The Stroppies were actually conceived in London after a chance meeting whilst performing on the same bill for other bands.
Relocation halfway across the world to Melbourne, Australia soon followed. Where the talents of Adam (2nd guitar) & Rory (Drums) were added to the mix and the Stroppies were born.
2017/18 brought about an exciting self titled EP as well as it’s follow up “Its a hit”. As the band set about building a loyal fan base in their home city.
Skip forward to 2019 and the band are celebrating the release of their debut album “Whoosh” in March of this year. And following domestic success have embarked on a 13 date European tour which has already taken in Paris, Rennes, Glasgow and Manchester amongst other major cities.
The accolades and plaudits are already rolling in for a band that combines catchy, simple and uplifting melodies with anxiety ridden, melancholy lyrics.
Marc Riley of the BBC’s new music flag ship station, 6 music, was impressed enough to invite The Stroppies along to perform a 4 set live session as recently as last week. A testament to have far the band have come in a very short space of time.
You can catch The Stroppies live this Tuesday 16th July at The Crofters Rights in Stokes Croft from 7:30pm.
Tickets are £7 in advance and are available here.
We’ll be covering the gig and hopefully catching up pre show for a quick chat.
