Things to do at home this Easter Weekend

Decorating eggs

This is a truly fun and simple activity to do with the kids if you have spare dozen eggs, it also sparks creativity and takes them away from the TV or iPads for a bit.

Mix 1/2 cup boiling water, 1 teaspoon vinegar and 10 to 20 drops of food colouring in a cup to achieve desired colours. Dip the hard-boiled eggs in dye for about 5 minutes. Then use a spoon to remove the eggs from the dye.

If you want to get a little more creative, you can think of some relevant Easter patterns to paint the eggs, which will make them even more eye-catching.

Perhaps place them in windows on window sills or even on display in your garden or house just to remind yourselves that it is Easter regardless of the circumstances!

Cook an Easter Roast

Easter Sunday roasts are traditionally made using delicious lamb. Often served on Easter Sunday, Lamb is referenced in quite a few Christian stories and has become linked with Easter due to the reference of Jesus being the sacrificial Lamb of God.

This tasty meat is also associated with springtime thanks to lots of lambs being born in the UK around then.

Preparing a roast, especially for Easter, will mean the whole family can get involved. Get the kids helping by peeling a few potatoes or carrots.

Then once its ready you can all sit down and indulge in a scrumptious roast prepared by you all and enjoy some family time celebrating this special time of the year!

Easter egg hunt

Grab a bag of small or medium Easter eggs and start hiding them around the house and garden without the kids noticing or while they are occupied.

Depending on the ages of your children, will determine the difficulty level you put on the hunt and where abouts you hide them.

You don't need a lot of participants to have fun and you can kill a lot of time hunting for eggs around the house and garden. Perhaps make it more special and hold it on Easter morning and let them find their main easter eggs or presents!

Hot cross buns

The classic hot cross bun is a bake we always see in our supermarkets around Easter time and many of us enjoy these. The cross on top of these fruit buns is a symbol of the crucifixion - which is why they are traditionally eaten on Good Friday.

Easter card making

Easter time this year will be different due to the current circumstances and many of us will be celebrating our Easter weekend without family.

If you have some spare paper or card, pencils or pens, you and the kids can design pretty Easter cards with special messages inside and post it to your loved ones to show them you're still thinking of them.

We assure family members that will recieve these cards will love them and will get them into the Easter spirit!

Go for an Easter walk

Some of us would enjoy an Easter Sunday walk before tucking into a traditional meal or even after to walk it off.

It could be a fun activity to do as a family and get out of the house for a little bit for some fresh air and to get out each other’s hair.

You can get the children to count as many trees they can spot or types of flowers to look out for to make it more interactive.
