The Thunder Run Experience Autumn/Winter 26/27

A behind-the-scenes Bristol Old Vic tour that demonstrates the oldest Thunder Run in the country and reveals how historic theatre-makers created thunder effects.

The Thunder Run Experience invites visitors to hear theatrical thunder roar as it did 260 years ago, with Bristol Old Vic technicians demonstrating the running of the oldest Thunder Run in the country.

Tour highlights:

• The new Bristol Old Vic foyer
• The Georgian Auditorium and Stage
• The original theatre roof space and Thunder Run
• Hearing the Thunder Run in action

Additional information:

• Tours must be booked at least 72 hours in advance.
• Comfortable shoes are advised.
• A step-free route is available for access needs (request at booking).
• As a working theatre, some areas may occasionally be inaccessible and tours may be rescheduled in rare circumstances.
• Participants should advise the guide if uncomfortable with heights.
