1. Bad Habits- Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran released ‘Bad Habits’ on June 25th 2021, this being the lead single of his Equals album. This song finds Ed Sheeran in a deep internal conflict about his bad habits, including his unhealthy lifestyle, nighttime drinking and partying, and how this is leading him to make poor choices. Ed Sheeran wrote this song with Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, alongside songwriter/producer Fred Again, in January 2021. He had just about finished the album when he felt like the record needed something unexpected.

 

 

2. Good 4 U- Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo wrote ‘Good 4 U’ alongside Daniel Nigro, who also produced the track. Daniel Nigro is Olivia’s regular collaborator and also co-wrote ‘Drivers License’. Rodrigo recorded the glossy song for her debut album Sour, which is described as being a mixture of pop,folk and rock. The song climbed to number 1 on its second week on the UK singles chart, with Sour debuting at the top of the album tally. As a result of this the 18- year old became the youngest solo act to reach the summit on both the UK singles and albums chart in the same week.

 

3. Drivers licence- Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo was known as an actress when she released her first ever single as a solo artist “Driver's license” at the age of 17. With a memorable heartsore vocal and freeing bridge, the song was an instant sensation, going straight to number 1 in America and topping the charts in multiple other countries. It was later released as part of the ‘Sour’ album, the song was classed as the most-streamed song on spotify of 2021, with a global count of 1.1 billion.

 

4.Save your tears- The Weeknd


‘Save your tears’ is one of the  five tracks on the After Hours album, which was produced by The Weeknd, alongside Max Martin and Oscar Holter. Other collaborations of theirs include singles “Blinding Lights” and “In Your Eyes”. Here, the weekend addresses a past relationship, he expresses his regret for running away from the romance and breaking her heart.



5. Montero- Lil Nas X

“Montero” was helped by the publicity generated from criticism of the song’s hell-themed music video, and accompanying ``Satan Shoes'',the song debuted to number 1 in both the UK and the US. It was Lil Nas X’s second chart topper in both countries, following ‘Old Town Road”. The song “Montero” received 5 nominations at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. It won 3 categories, including the prestigious video of the year award.
