Weston Air Festival announces planes taking to the skies for 2022

The full air display line-up for Weston Air Festival has now been revealed, with Gazelle Squadron, Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers, Calidus Autogyro, RAF Tutor, T67 Firefly, the Yakovlev Yak-3, BBMF Hurricane and Spitfire, The Great War Display Team and Team Raven taking to the skies when the event returns on 25th and 26th June 2022.

On Saturday 25th June, The Blades will bring the show to a close with stunning formations taking to the skies, and the mighty RAF Red Arrows will close the whole weekend on Sunday 26th June over Weston seafront.

The free to attend two-day festival sees thousands of visitors flock to Weston-super-Mare to gather on the seafront to witness an astounding line-up of aerial entertainment, as well as enjoy the event village on Weston’s beach lawns.

The Blades are a leading display team, world-famous for flying close-formation aerobatics to the highest level. Their low-wing, high performance aircraft are designed for the most adventurous aerobatic manoeuvres, flown by former Red Arrow pilots, as close as 4 feet apart at speeds of up to 250 mph.

The world renowned Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers have performed in over 20 countries with their breathtaking acrobatics and handstands and they are flying into Weston-super-Mare this year. As the pilots fly through a choreographed and energetic routine including loops, rolls, stall turns and inverted flight, reaching speeds of up to 150mph.

Another addition to the line- up is the Calidus Autogyro. Like James Bond’s Little Nellie the autogyro may not have the tricks and gadgets of a Q Division aircraft, but its spectacular movements and sycamore flight patterns make it a huge crowd pleaser. The Cheeky Champ display will display for the first year at the event, towing its colourful ribbon across the skies.

A Weston Air Festival favourite, the Slingsby T67 Firefly is returning to Weston-super-Mare this year for a dynamic and exciting performance. Team Raven is a formation aerobatic display team flying self-build RV8 aircraft, painting shapes across the skies in their wake.

As well as a weekend of outstanding entertainment in the sky, Weston Air Festival offers airshow fans the chance to enjoy a whole host of family-friendly fun along the seafront and beach lawns and once again incorporates the town’s Armed Forces Day celebrations.

The event village will feature exhibition stands, food stalls, family activities and fairgrounds, as well as the chance to meet RAF crews up close and personal, ensuring there’s plenty to see and do at ground level.
