The centre was marked on a whole host of criteria including cleanliness, safety and how welcoming the area is.
The award is thanks to an effort from all partners involved and follows a joint bid by Bristol City Council, Avon and Somerset Constabulary and Destination Bristol.
George Ferguson, Mayor of Bristol, said: "It is excellent to see that Bristol’s vibrant and well-managed city centre has once again been recognised.
“Our city has so much to offer, both during the day and at night, with a wealth of festivals and other free events on throughout the year.
The Purple Flag is an annual award created by the national Association of Town Centre Management which recognises the wide range of entertainment, restaurants and leisure attractions available in Bristol.
This award adds to a growing list of achievements the city has acquired, the city is currently European Green Capital and in March 2014 Bristol was voted the best place to live in Britain by the Sunday Times.
John Hirst, Chief Executive of Destination Bristol, said: “We are delighted to have retained the Purple Flag award as it once again demonstrates to visitors that Bristol city centre is committed to offering a high quality and wide choice of entertainment.”
The full economic impact report will not be available until this autumn, however early indications show that Bristol is the 8th most visited city in the UK.
Bristol was one of the first cities in the country to win a Purple Flag back in 2010. Despite this years success there is no time to relax and are already looking ahead to next year’s assessment.
They hope the Shaun the Sheep trail will help to bring a diverse set of people to the city centre.
