7 Things For Young People To Do Around Bristol

Bristol is a UK city best known for its historical sites and stunning architecture.

What’s more, this metropolis has recently been voted the best city in the UK for its idyllic scenery and range of interesting jobs. While this information will pique the interest of the local adults, Bristol isn’t a place on the radar of many young people.

Fortunately, you may be happy to learn that there are plenty of things for the youth of today in Bristol, you just need to know where to look. As such, let’s discuss some of the things that young people can do around Bristol to remove this confusion.

Street Art

Those with a love of creativity will find it beneficial to take a walking tour of Bristol’s street art. Of course, the best place to start is with a peek at the eleven works by the notorious graffiti artist, Banksy. In fact, Banksy is so prolific in the area that a museum was briefly reworked in 2009 to commemorate the works they had to show in the city.

Moving on from Banksy, there is another Bristol tour art that will take you across the city to showcase the best street art and the meaning behind it. Some of this art is tucked away in alleys and behind buildings, so a tour is definitely a must for anyone that wants to see it all.

Campus Skate Parks

Campus has two skate parks open to the public in Bristol. One is in the North, the other in the South. This youth group has strived to show kids a more positive outlook on life by teaching them how to skateboard, and they have been successful in their mission so far.

You will have to book in advance, and they have a range of classes divided up between age groups and skill levels.

Ferry Trips

Perhaps your children do not want to spend all day on their feet. Instead of walking around the city of Bristol, why not take a ferry trip on the River Avon. These boats leave throughout the day and offer you the chance to sightsee from the comfort of the ferry.

From your position on the river, you should be able to see Cabot house, the Clifton Suspension bridge, and Millennium Square. Traverse Bristol in Style by taking a ferry next time you visit.

Bristol Aquarium

Bristol Aquarium is unique in the fact that it features thousands of sea creatures, as well as an urban jungle habitat for other, land-based animals. The range of sea creatures inside includes seahorses, piranhas, stingrays, sharks, and puffer fish. That’s not all. The urban jungle also includes otters, turtles, poison dart frogs, terrapins, and toxic toads. This is definitely a day out for the younger generation, but you may also find yourself amazed at the range of wildlife on display.

Shopping Centre

Sometimes, young people just want a place to hang out. Planned activities are fun, but a day of shopping is equally as entertaining when you are of a certain age. Fortunately, Cabot Circus shopping centre in Bristol currently has over one hundred and twenty shops inside, alongside a food court, a gym, and a cinema.

Cabot Circus mall opened in 2008 and it plays host to a wide range of shops including Zara, Hollister, Superdry, Foyles, and more. There is plenty to do a Cabot Circus, so why not let your youngster spend a day here with their friends. The locals seem to love it too.

Digimakers

Digimakers is another youth programme that is similar to Campus Skate Parks. However, instead of teaching kids to skate, they teach kids about computer programming. These courses are open to anyone under the age of eighteen, and the skills they teach range from simple computer functions, like turning a JPG into a PDF, to full electronics workshops. Your children will need to adapt to a digital future, so getting them used to using this technology now is more essential than ever.

M Shed

The M Shed is Bristol’s history museum, and it is located on Harbourside. The building takes its name from the fact that it used to act as a warehouse. Now, the M Shed is a vibrant museum with several rotating exhibitions. You can go to learn about the culture and architecture of this fine city, but young people may be more inclined to visit when there is something new on display.

We have already mentioned the previous Banksy exhibit, but the museum was also recently hosting a display that delved deep into the last seven decades of music. Next time you plan on visiting Bristol, make sure you check out the M Shed to see what’s on.

Summary

Bristol is a city that has something to offer everyone. Fortunately, it is also known for supporting youth culture, so perhaps it is worth a visit if you have young teens or children.
