Bristol Cathedral and BBC Radio Bristol present Exploring Life and Faith: My Story
Bristol Cathedral and BBC Radio Bristol will be marking Lent with a series of talks, exploring people’s paths to faith.
Exploring Life and Faith: My Story is an exciting new venture which begins on Sunday 22nd
February. During Evensong on the 5 Sunday afternoons during Lent, Lucy Tegg from BBC
Radio Bristol will be chatting to members of the community in Bristol. These conversations are to
cover their path to faith and they will choose a book, a hymm and an art object which mean
something to them.
“I’m lucky to present a programme which explores local faith leader’s paths to faith. I’m always
curious to learn the story behind others personal beliefs; whether they’ve had a ‘lightning strike’ faith
awakening or a lifetime of firm belief. To be able to have these conversations in the beautiful
setting of Bristol Cathedral is a huge privilege.” Lucy Tegg, BBC Radio Bristol
The series will begin with The Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle, Dean of Bristol. The Dean is head
of the cathedral foundation, he chairs the Cathedral Chapter, directing the mission and
ministry of the cathedral. He represents the cathedral in the diocese and is a crucial important point of contact between the city and the diocese. This is an opportunity to hear about his own personal reflections of faith.
Subsequent guests will include renowned Bristol figure John Savage CBE, whose various roles in the city include Chairman of University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, Chairman of GWE Business West and Chairman of Destination Bristol. Jane White’s faith comes into daily practice in her work with Christians Against Poverty, as she befriends and offers practical support to those rising to the challenge of overcoming the effects of debt. Alex Kittow’s faith has taken him all over the world, teaching mechanics to the Southmead Development Trust in East Africa, which seeks to improve and enhance opportunities within South Bristol's local community.
The series finishes on Sunday 22nd March when the tables shall be turned and The Dean of
Bristol will have a talk with Lucy Tegg about her own relationship with faith. Lucy’s Sunday morning show on BBC Radio Bristol and Somerset give her the means to visit faith projects across the South West, including interviewing the Archbishop of Canterbury last year.
All interviews will be broadcast the following Sunday morning on BBC Radio Bristol and Somerset.
