Clifton Bids for Success in National ‘Britain in Bloom’

Following Clifton Village’s prestigious Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Pennant Award in 2014 and 2015, judges of Britain in Bloom will once again head to Clifton Village to judge the area for the third consecutive year on Wednesday 20th July.

Part of Clifton in Bloom, the project is designed to raise awareness of the area and maximise the opportunities for environmental improvement, whilst making it more attractive to residents and businesses and more inviting for tourists.

On the 20th July, RHS judge Terry Porter will be in Clifton, judging the nominated route starting out at the Bridge Garden, a border garden at the Clifton end of Brunel’s world famous Suspension Bridge, through to an array of natural and rare flora native to the Avon Gorge.

Clifton Village has won a host of awards for its spectacular show of flowers and gardens on display; the Mall Gardens were awarded an Outstanding Neighbourhood Award and Clifton won a prestigious Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Pennant Award and Gold RHS Pennant Awards in 2014 and 2015, with this year’s presentation taking place in Taunton at the County Cricket Ground in October.

Sharon Baker, Bristol in Bloom volunteer explains:

“We are delighted to be taking part in yet another Britain in Bloom project and bringing flowers and vibrant colours to Clifton Village. Clifton in Bloom engages the community, fosters pride, attracts visitors to the area, encourages people to learn about and care for their environment and creates stunning spaces for everyone to enjoy during the summer months.”

Andrew Morgan, chair, BID Clifton Village explains:

“BID Clifton Village has gained a Pennant Award through Britain in Bloom over the last two years and we’re hoping to do the same again this year. More than 1,000 communities take part in the campaign, so we are excited to invite the judges over to see what Clifton Village has to offer and encourage more people to come into the area to discover Clifton and be part of the community.”

Clifton in Bloom invites everyone to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, learn about sustainable planters and composters, the ecology of the Village and enjoy the sunshine and natural, green spaces.

The city of Bristol currently holds 32 Britain in Bloom Neighbourhood Awards, won a Gold award and represented the UK in the 2012 Entente Florale and won the National Large City Category in the RHS Britain in Bloom 2011.
