Lifestyle District: Take on the Challenge of walking from Bristol to Bath
Over at Lifestyle District HQ they love a good walk and spend many a weekend in their walking shoes exploring the great outdoors! The South West offers some of the best walks in the UK and you don’t need to venture deep too deep countryside; Dan and Virginia talk us through how to walk walk between Bristol and Bath.
No, we’re not mad! We’re talking about the challenge of the Bristol and Bath Railway Path, a 13-mile off road route constructed on the former Midland Railway which closed in the 1960s. We recently took it on.
Now the walk may take around five hours but trust us, the time will fly by on what is a fascinating adventure.
As well as lush vegetation, the route includes some old stations including Mangotsfield, where trees and flowers now grow on the former platforms alongside art in the windows of the old buildings, and Warmley, which has been lovingly restored to its former glory with a quaint little café in the ex-waiting room.
Further down the path is a working railway and station and if you’re lucky like us, you’ll get to witness a genuine steam train in action.
As you approach Bath, some intriguing graffiti appears on bridges that once crossed the railway tracks as well as a pub in Saltford, the only watering hole on the route.
But we didn’t stop there. We trekked on and reached Bath just after the sun had set. That was when we finally got our pint!
If you’ve got the time to spare, we urge you to take on the Bristol to Bath challenge (or the other way round if you fancy it)!
