0117 9222000Marking 100 years since the end of World War One, this year’s parade and service is especially poignant with commemorations starting from 06:00am with a lone piper playing Battle’s O’er outside Bristol Cathedral. The traditional tune played by pipers after a battle, will be simultaneously played at a range of venues across the country.
The military parade will assemble on College Green from 09:30am, leaving at 10:20am to get to the Cenotaph on Colston Avenue. The parade will be followed closely by dignitaries from across Bristol in a civic procession. The parade will be commanded by Lt Col C Read RM of the Royal Marine Reserve Bristol. It will include other Reserve units, cadet contingents, veteran’s organisation led by the Royal British Legion, and other groups.
The act of remembrance will begin at 11:00am with gun fire marking the start of the two minute silence, a mark respect for those who gave their lives serving their country. A short service and wreath laying will take place before the parade returns to College Green
Cllr Cleo Lake, Lord Mayor of Bristol, said: ‘’Remembrance Sunday is a time when the people of Bristol join the rest of the nation to remember and honour the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to their country.
“This year’s parade holds particular significance as it marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, and in Bristol, we will join with others across the nation to mark this day with dignity and respect. I would like to invite everyone to join us on Sunday to line the route, witness the parade and participate in the service.”
