An Introduction to Moths and Moth Trapping, Henfield

This beginner-friendly evening course introduces participants to the diversity of Sussex moths through an illustrated talk, hands-on identification from a moth trap, and practical moth-trapping techniques on the reserve.

Participants can come face to face with the beautiful (and sometimes bizarre) moths of Sussex while learning how to identify and survey them.

The evening begins with an illustrated presentation introducing the diversity of local moth species. Participants then examine the previous night’s moth trap to study and identify what has been caught, using field guides. After releasing the moths, traps are set up on the reserve to demonstrate moth surveying and to observe moths coming to light.

What to bring: Warm clothes, sturdy footwear, a water bottle and a torch. Identification books may be brought along; some books are provided for use.

Other information: Free parking is available. Public toilets are available in the car park and classroom. Both the classroom and toilet are fully accessible.
