Bristol Mums Launch Unique Baby Spa Inspired by Dutch Hydrotherapy Concept

A unique baby spa in Bristol is making waves with parents across the South West after two local mums transformed an idea inspired by Dutch baby wellness practices into a growing business venture.

Leteau was founded by sisters Louise Rickman and Jenny Alexander, who introduced the calming infant hydrotherapy concept to Bristol after discovering similar baby wellness experiences while visiting Holland.

The name Leteau combines references to motherhood and water, reflecting the spa’s focus on nurturing babies through specialist hydrotherapy and massage sessions designed to support both physical wellbeing and emotional development.

The Bristol baby spa offers warm-water hydrotherapy treatments using specially designed infant baths, alongside gentle baby massage delivered by trained professionals. Sessions are designed to encourage positive water experiences for babies while also strengthening bonding between parents and their children.

Since opening in November, the business has steadily gained popularity through social media recommendations and word of mouth, attracting families not only from Bristol but from across the wider South West, including Cardiff, Birmingham and London.

The idea first began taking shape when the sisters experienced baby hydrotherapy overseas while one was pregnant and the other travelling with her young daughter. Seeing the positive impact the sessions had on both babies and parents inspired them to bring the concept to the UK.

After formally registering the company and searching for suitable premises earlier in the year, the duo secured financial support through the British Business Bank’s Start Up Loans programme, which helps entrepreneurs launch and grow new businesses. The finance enabled them to complete their launch plans, develop the spa environment and begin welcoming customers.

The success of Leteau has already highlighted growing demand for holistic baby and parent wellbeing services in Bristol and across the South West. The founders now hope to expand the concept further in the future, with ambitions to create broader wellness spaces supporting parents from pregnancy through early childhood.

Future plans could include antenatal support, lactation consultancy, yoga and Pilates classes, cranial osteopathy and wider wellbeing services aimed at supporting families during the early stages of parenthood.
