Where to Go in Italy's Countryside for a Safe and Fun Holiday

Frankly, it has been a tough year for most. We could do with a safe and fun holiday – places that aren't crowded. And one of the best spots to tour is Italy's countryside. In case you didn't know, Italy has some of the most eye-catching sceneries in its countryside! Better yet, Italy has managed to implement proper measures to prevent the Coronavirus outbreak. In fact, it has done better than most countries in Europe since it’s got one of the lowest contagion rate currently.

Learn Italian before you go

By now, you already know that the majority of the population in Italy speaks Italian. That means that if you were to tour Italy's countryside, you need to learn some Italian. This may seem hectic, but it doesn’t have to be: thanks to modern technology there are plenty of online Italian courses you can take, like ones on the Babbel app, for example. The greatest benefit of apps is that you can use them anywhere and at any time, even in Italy! Perfect your accent and learn to order your espresso and pasta!

Destination 1: Orvieto

Visiting Orvieto is guaranteed to be a fascinating experience. How so? It is a historic town for starters, and there's a part that is built at the top of a steep hill. You will most likely be impressed by the well-preserved gothic and medieval buildings and impressive architecture. Furthermore, the town has small parks and well-maintained gardens, which offer a breathtaking view. I would recommend visiting Torre del Moro, a very high and panoramic tower located in the exact centre of the town. Also, not to miss: Pozzo della Cava and Pozzo di San Patrizio, two manmade wells dating back to the Etruscans.

Destination 2: Roseto Capo Spulico

When in Italy, you should definitely visit Roseto Capo Spulico. It is a small coastal town in Southern Italy. If you love the beach, then this should be your go-to destination. It also has spectacular seaside resorts, which will make your stay more comfortable. A destination you should not miss is The Church of the Immaculate Conception, which was built in the 15th century.

Destination 3: Pitigliano

Pitigliano is famous for its medieval architecture. And it is one destination you shouldn't miss. The town is located in Tuscany, and most houses are carved in tuff stone. Some of the scenic sites include the Jewish Ghetto, enigmatic Etruscan caves, twisting stone stairways, and green valleys. Also, like most parts of Italy, it has churches that were built in the middle ages.

Destination 4: Vipiteno

If you admire the mountain scenery, then you must include Vipiteno in your travel plans. The town is located in South Tyrol, and it has a lot of history and culture for you to enjoy. As if that's not enough, Vipiteno has brightly colored buildings, which enhance its view. You can also enjoy the fantastic ski slopes in Monte Cavallo, a town close by.

Destination 5: Belluno

Last but not least, we recommend Belluno. It is a countryside town situated in Northern Italy. And it is mostly loved for its beautiful sceneries. When in the city, you will see the snowcapped Dolomites and the beautiful Piave River.

When you get to the town, you will be graced by the Romanesque churches and buildings built in the renaissance era. It also has palazzi, which are great for people who love history. Even better, you only need to drive for an hour to get to the Venice. Interesting, right?

When visiting Italy, make sure to follow all of the health guidelines and wear a mask.
